Development of highly loaded iOS applications AVADA-MEDIA

One of the main activities of AVADA-MEDIA is the development of highly loaded iOS applications. As practice shows, the ideal loading time for a mobile application is about two seconds. However, according to the latest research, for every extra second the app consumes, the conversion rate drops by 7%.

It’s no secret that many users get upset and angry if they have to wait longer and never return to the same app again. Another report shows that 48% of customers uninstall or stop using an app if it is slow.

The main problems that slow down iOS applications:

  • The application is outdated and does not support the latest version of the operating system
  • Slow server speed
  • Encrypted connections are not optimized
  • The application is full of data
  • Network delay

Description of problems and methods of their elimination AVADA-MEDIA

  • The application is outdated and does not support the latest version of the operating system

If your business model involves a mobile app, you need to understand how important it is to update it regularly. You must make sure that your application supports the latest version of the operating system. If it is not optimized and regularly updated, a significant proportion of users will experience difficulties.

In addition, older versions of the platform do not receive the necessary support from the vendor, and after a certain date, support ends altogether. The solution to the problem is updating and optimizing software, as well as tracking the latest trends in the development and design of applications. Updating your application and testing it on new platforms also ensures that it is compatible with newer versions of the operating system. It also improves the performance of your application.

  • Slow server speed

You must have encountered this message many times: “The server is down or not connected.” This is one of the common reasons some websites take a long time to load. The same problem occurs with mobile apps as well.

There can be many reasons why the server infrastructure is slow. The root cause of all these problems is the same: an overloaded server. Sometimes the problem can be related to the latency of another process, which is associated with most of the application’s tasks.

To solve this problem, we usually use several approaches:

  1. Determining the interactions between the various components of an application, known as Application Dependency Mapping (ADM).
  2. Reducing server load by using an additional proxy server. A reverse proxy provides many benefits and speeds up web requests by providing compression, SSL termination, caching, and more.
  3. Deploying a load balancer to evenly distribute traffic.
  • Encrypted connections are not optimized

SSL / TLS connections provide encryption of transmitted data and are critical from an application development perspective. They can create problems if not optimized. Unoptimized encrypted connections will degrade application performance. To solve these problems, we usually use OpenSSL, Session Tickets, session caching and some other technologies.

  • Application is overflowing with data

If the application is overloaded with data, its performance slows down. If too many servers are loaded, it takes a long time. However, it is not a good idea to reduce the amount of data and compromise the convenient features of the application.

The simplest and undoubtedly the best solution to the problem is data compression. Whether you have images, videos, graphics or audio content, compressing data will make your app load faster and you won’t have to fiddle with any settings or features.

To solve this problem, you need to select the appropriate compression standards according to the file size and content. If we are talking about some of the common methods of compressing or reducing the size of data, there are two options available. The first is a lossless method, the second is lossy compression.

  1. Lossless compression: With this method, the developer can restore the file to its original size and no data will be lost if the file is not compressed. This type of data compression is used to reduce the size of text documents and spreadsheets.
  2. Lossy compression: This approach actually removes data from the application, which is usually not noticeable. This data compression method is used to compress video, audio, and image files.
  • Network latency

Network speed can greatly affect the speed of your mobile app. If the network is slow, the application performance will also be slow. If an application makes a request to a non-existent primary DNS server and does not receive a response, it will try a second DNS server, but this will slow down the application’s speed.

To solve this problem, you need to constantly monitor the network speed and the speed of the application.
